Cape Fear Moving Forward 2045 Draft Plan

July Virtual Open Houses

To complete the final review of our metropolitan transportation plan, Cape Fear Moving Forward 2045, the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will be hosting three virtual public open houses in July. Three of the five in-person public open houses originally scheduled for March 2020 were cancelled due to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Public input is essential in preparing an appropriate transportation plan and it is our hope that anyone who has not yet reviewed and commented on the plan will take this final opportunity to do so. The plan includes an evaluation of potential aviation, bicycle and pedestrian, ferry and water transportation, freight and freight rail, public transportation, and roadway projects to meet the needs of the region over the next 25 years.

Cape Fear Moving Forward 2045 will be the plan used by federal, state, and local governments to guide transportation projects in our region over the next 25 years. The creation of this plan is required to secure federal transportation dollars for our region. Cape Fear Moving Forward 2045 will replace our current plan, Cape Fear Transportation 2040, which will expire in November 2020.

The Cape Fear Moving Forward 2045 plan was developed with extensive public input and now requires additional public review prior to adoption of the final plan. The draft plan is available here:
