May is National Bike Month! Promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities throughout the United States, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more individuals to bike, both as a means of transportation and for recreation.
The WMPO Board has proclaimed May as Bike Month. The WMPO is committed to the promotion of safe and convenient bicycling, and increased use of the mode to support our multimodal transportation network. The WMPO and Go Coast encourage bicycling as a safe and clean mode of transportation – bike for your health, to reduce traffic, for clean air, to engage with your community, and much more.
Check out Go Coast’s “Bike There” Map for an impressive list of parks, shopping centers, local businesses, museums, and more that are all safely accessible by bike. The map can be viewed here.
There are approximately 34 miles of greenways and 56 miles of bike lanes within the WMPO boundary. Go Coast Bike Month is our chance to showcase the desire for more bike facilities to make our communities safer, happier, and more connected.
