WMPO Launches Safety Action Plan Initiative

The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) is proud to launch its Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. This initiative aims to enhance roadway safety for all users including drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders, throughout the Cape Fear Region.

The SS4A program is a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) initiative that supports local strategies to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. WMPO’s Action Plan is a regional, data-driven approach to identify safety concerns and guide improvements.

Over the coming months, the WMPO, along with transportation partners and consultant Kittelson & Associates, will analyze crash data, assess high-risk corridors, and engage with community members to identify key safety priorities. The resulting plan will outline targeted actions and projects aimed at creating a safer, more equitable regional transportation network.
