The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) advises the WMPO Board regarding bicycle and pedestrian programs, projects, policies, and safety. The committee meets bimonthly. More information is available here.


WMPO Board Meeting

MPO Board (Board, formerly TAC):  The WMPO Board sets policy direction and approves all WMPO plans, projects, and proposals. Regular meetings are generally held at 3:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month, except December. For any other exceptions, please see adopted meeting schedule here. This meeting will be held in the WMPO Conference Room at 525 N. 4th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401

The WMPO’s current planning area boundary includes New Hanover County, City of Wilmington, Town of Wrightsville Beach, Town of Carolina Beach, Town of Kure Beach, northern portions of Brunswick County, Town of Belville, Town of Leland, Town of Navassa, and southern portions of Pender County. Elected officials from each of these member jurisdictions comprise the WMPO Board, in addition to an elected official serving on the Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority’s Board and a member of the North Carolina Board of Transportation appointed by the Governor.

We’re home!

Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO) is excited to celebrate the opening of our new office and welcome others to join!

Date: Wednesday, October 30, 2024
Time: 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Location: WMPO Office – 525 N. Fourth Street, Wilmington

Open to the public, this event will kickoff with remarks from our Executive Director, Mike Kozlosky, preceded by industry and local leaders: Trevor Carroll from NCDOT, City of Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, and the WMPO Board Chairman and Mayor of Wrightsville Beach, Hank Miller. After the Ribbon Cutting ceremony, the offices will be open for the community to tour, with guidance from WMPO staff. Light refreshments will be served.

Public Comment Opportunity: Draft Local Input Point Assignment for Regional Impact Projects

The WMPO has developed draft local input point assignments for Regional Impact projects for the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) Strategic Prioritization 7.0 process for the development of the 2026-2035 State/Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program.

An important part of this process is providing the public with an opportunity to comment. The public may review the draft local input point assignment for Regional Impact projects on the WMPO’s website at https://www.wmpo.org/ncdot-prioritization or at the WMPO offices located at 929 N. Front Street, 1st floor, Wilmington.

WMPO Organizational Assessment RFLOI

The City of Wilmington is seeking a qualified firm to perform an Organizational Assessment for the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO). The WMPO desires to better understand how it is performing based on the needs of our members and an evaluation of the roles, responsibilities, staffing, program delivery, and structure of the organization. The recommendations from this assessment will be used to deliver services more efficiently and effectively to our members. The submittal deadline is December 12, 2022. The RFLOI can be viewed here.


WMPO Certification Review: Public Comment Opportunity

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) continues to mandate the certification of the transportation planning process in Transportation Management Areas (TMAs) at least once every four years by the U.S. Department of Transportation in order to determine if the transportation planning process being conducted in the area meets the Federal requirements as listed in 23 CFR 450 Part C.

The Federal certification review team will conduct an on-site visit in Wilmington, NC on Thursday, December 8, 2022. The review team will be available after 1 pm on December 8th and will hold a short debriefing in the Technology Conference Room located on the 4th floor of 305 Chestnut Street in downtown Wilmington to summarize the findings.

An important part of the certification review is providing the public with an opportunity to comment. The public comment period will be open from November 16, 2022, until 5 pm on December 7, 2022. All comments can be e-mailed to mike.kozlosky@wilmingtonnc.gov or via U.S mail to:
